An amazing opportunity has arisen for a skilled and experienced legal assistant to join a prestigious law firm in the heart of Durham.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administrative support to solicitors and legal professionals, contributing to the efficient operation of the firm.

A day in the office will look like:
  • Provide administrative support to solicitors and legal staff, including managing diaries, scheduling meetings, and coordinating appointments.
  • Prepare and format legal documents, including letters, contracts, court forms, and briefs, using word processing software and following UK legal formatting standards.
  • Organise and maintain physical and electronic filing systems, ensuring all documents are accurately labeled, filed, and readily accessible.
  • Proofread and edit legal documents for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to legal requirements and firm standards.
  • Assist with document production and preparation for court filings, hearings, and meetings, ensuring deadlines are met and documents are properly filed and served.
  • Answer phones, screen calls, and take messages for solicitors and legal staff, handling inquiries professionally and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with clients and other parties involved in legal matters to schedule appointments, meetings, and conferences.
  • Assist with billing and invoicing tasks, including recording time entries, preparing invoices, and following up on outstanding payments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to data protection regulations and professional standards in handling client matters.

Desired candidate:
  • Previous experience working as a legal secretary is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal software
  • Excellent typing and word processing skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with clients, colleagues, and external parties.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Discretion and integrity in handling confidential information and maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Legal secretarial qualifications or relevant certifications are desirable but not essential.
