Senior Business Intelligence Engineer
Cardiff (hybrid)

Our Financial Services client has a brand new opportunity for a Senior BI Engineer to join their growing team and organisation.

This role is pivotal in enhancing decision-making and strategic planning across the organisation through the development, deployment, and maintenance of comprehensive BI solutions.

This role will manage the diverse data sources and produce robust and comprehensive reports and dashboards across the organisations key operational areas:
• Financial reporting
• Risk and Compliance reporting
• Operational reporting
• Banking Platform reporting
• IT Service, resilience, and cyber reporting

Responsibilities
Data Management: Design, construct, install, test, and maintain highly scalable data management systems. 
Data Analytics: Develop analytics tools that utilise the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into key business performance metrics and operational efficiency.
Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work closely with department heads and their teams to gather requirements and identify opportunities for data-driven strategies.
Systems integration: Enable systems integration to drive single source of truth from a data perspective through the effective use of API integration to simplify data extraction and standardisation.
Tool Management: Manage BI tools and analytics software that allow for the professional handling of business data. 
Reporting: Design and deliver end-user training and tutorials to assist business teams (including Finance, Risk, Operations and IT) in using BI tools and data analysis applications. Create custom reports and dashboards critical for the strategic tasks of the enterprise.
Enable data driven processes: Work closely with all departments across the organisation to enable the effective use of the Microsoft Power Platform to automate manual steps and drive operational efficiencies and continuous improvement.
Compliance and Security: Adhere to the data privacy policies and comply with data protection regulations to ensure that the data used in reports is handled securely. Assess and improve existing BI systems with an eye on future needs and potential risks.

Skills & Experience
Advanced SQL and Database Management: Proficient in SQL with a deep understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP), and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) framework.
BI Technologies Expertise: Extensive experience with BI tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft SSRS and Excel for creating dashboards and reports.
Advanced Excel Development: Advanced skills in Excel including macros, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and the ability to develop complex models and simulations for business forecasting and variance analysis.
Data Warehousing Solutions: Knowledge of data warehouse technologies, infrastructure components, including experience with services like AWS Redshift, or Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
API Integration and Data Bridging: Experience in developing and managing API integrations and data bridging services between different business systems for seamless data flow and accessibility.
Programming skills: Proficient in programming languages relevant to data analysis, and understanding of software development practices.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse, model, and interpret data. Skilled in identifying data discrepancies and irregularities.
Ensures the quality and stability of developed reporting services by implementing rigorous testing and validation processes to maintain accuracy and reliability of data reports.
Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on delivering results within deadline and budget constraints.
Excellent communication skills, capable of clearly explaining complex data-related concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influencing decision-making through data-driven insights.
Meticulous attention to detail with an emphasis on accuracy and quality in all aspects of data analysis and reporting.
Adaptability and Continuous Learning. Stays updated with industry trends and advancements in BI technology. Adaptable to rapidly changing business environments and technology stacks.
A pragmatic approach to problem-solving and the development of non-bureaucratic processes that are efficient and adaptable to a small team environment.
The ability to work effectively in both startup environments and scale operations.
Experience in managing data and reporting services across the environment.
Relevant higher education qualifications or equivalent practical experience.
