Overview

Aims

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European-wide law that came into effect in May 2018. It replaces the previous Data Protection Act 1998 in the UK. This law enforces data protection in the European Union. It is important to note that the UK Government has confirmed that the UK's decision to leave the European Union will not alter this fact.

In the UK, we also have The Data Protection Act 2018 which is a United Kingdom Act of Parliament that updates data protection laws in the UK specifically. It is a national law that incorporates and complements the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation.

Maguire Training has designed this short course to walk you through the broader EU Laws pertaining to GDPR, what it could potentially mean to your organisation and the steps that you can take to ensure compliance.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
