Description

What You Will Learn from the Parapsychology Diploma Course

This fascinating and thought provoking course will teach you everything that you need to know about parapsychology and how to go about investigating the mysterious for yourself.

Parapsychology is the study of paranormal phenomena involving the human mind.

Para is from Greek and means ‘beside, closely related to, beyond’. The term parapsychology replaced psychical research to indicate the shift towards experimental methodology and academic discipline.

The phenomena studied includes:-

  • Telepathy
  • Precognition
  • Clairvoyance
  • Mediumship
  • Psychokinesis
  • Near-death experiences
  • Reincarnation
  • ESP

The intention is to use a scientific and scholarly approach to study anomalous phenomena; anything that is not considered normal or defies explanation.

Parapsychology is often identified as a pseudoscience, partially because it has become associated with a variety of fringe topics (a misconception is that a parapsychologist is a psychic and many people use ‘parapsychologist’ as a synonym for a psychic entertainer).

The course begins with a general introduction into parapsychology, including its history and the attitude of science to these anomalous phenomena and some of the key figures involved. The syllabus then moves on to cover the types of phenomena that a parapsychologist might investigate, and how the scientific process can confirm or reject these phenomena.

Fraud and deception has a long history within parapsychology. In module four you will delve deeper into examples of these instances where those studying anomalous phenomena have been deceived – with particular reference to researcher fraud. The course finishes with a summary of the research results that appear to show overwhelming evidence in favour of paranormal phenomena existing and how you should research, assess and collect data when performing an investigation, as well as advice on forming your own investigation team and assessing the data found.

With so much intriguing content we’re sure that this course will leave you a lot more open minded about the realms of the paranormal, the psyche and the human mind.

Who Would Benefit from the Course?

The primary purpose of this course is to provide all the information you need with reference to understanding and assessing the phenomena of parapsychology.

Although no prior knowledge is needed to take the course, you will learn a lot from the syllabus that could be useful in the psychology field.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
