The Online Safeguarding Children Level 3 DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) course is designed for individuals who are responsible for safeguarding children. This Online DSL Training is suitable for a wide range of professionals, including those who work directly with children or supervise others working with children. Some examples of settings where this training would be beneficial include schools, academies, nurseries, preschools, sports centres, sports teams, leisure centres, clinics, surgeries, health centres, lone workers, and out-of-school and afterschool settings.

What does this course cover

  1. Course Overview: Firstly, an introduction to the content and structure of the course.
  2. KCSIE 2022 (1st Sept 2022) and shortly KCSIE 2023 (01st Sept 2023): Next, an overview of the latest version of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance.
  3. The Designated Safeguarding Lead: Subsequently, an exploration of the role and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Designated Safeguarding Officer.
  4. Defining Safeguarding: Moving on, an examination of the concept of safeguarding and its importance in protecting children.
  5. Conceptions of Vulnerable Children: Moreover, an in-depth look at factors that contribute to children’s vulnerability.
  6. Influencing Factors: Additionally, an exploration of external factors that can impact children’s safety and well-being.
  7. The Protection: Furthermore, an understanding of the protective measures and systems in place for safeguarding children.
  8. Defining Child Abuse: Moreover, a comprehensive definition of different forms and types of child abuse.
  9. The Hidden Face: Furthermore, a focus on recognising signs and indicators of child abuse that may not be immediately apparent.

  8. Safer Recruitment: Furthermore, learning about safer recruitment practices to ensure the safety of children within an organisation and online safeguarding children training.
  9. Taking the Next Step and Latest Updates: Lastly, considering the actions and further steps to be taken as a Designated Safeguarding Lead, as well as staying updated with the latest developments in safeguarding children.

Requirements

There are no requirements to complete this course but you will need a basic understanding of Safeguarding Children and Child Protection, we therefore suggest you complete the Safeguarding Children Level 2 first.

Please ensure you enter the correct student details, full name and email address so that your student and/or yourself are certificated correctly. Once a course is completed the name on the certificate cannot be changed.

You have until 6 months of expiry to print out a copy of your certificate.

Hello, The KCSI 2023 is not in force until 01st September as stated by the government website - therefore we can not give out the 2013 guidance until such time and confuse those thinking they are to work to that guidance now. In theory anyone can become the safeguarding officer as long as the owner/director of the organisation believes that the individual holds the relevant level of qualification and/or experience. The Level 3 DSL curse would usually be the minimum requirement needed.

Hello, As in the description the course will qualify you to be a Designated Safeguarding Lead and / or give you a full understanding of safeguarding. The course take approx 6 hours to complete before you take an online test (multiple choice). You can take the test as many times as needed at no extra cost until you pass. Your certificate is then valid for 2 years, is CPD certificated and recognised by the likes of Ofsted.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
