Area Transport Manager (Bulk Gas) - Central UK Region

Due to the recent company restructure within operations, logistics, we are currently looking for an Area Transport Manager (Bulk Gas) to cover the Central region of the UK.

As the Area Transport Manager, you will be managing all aspects of Transport planning and execution at multiple Calor Operations sites, to lead, manage, motivate, and develop site based and remote teams.

You will ensure operations are always carried out within company service standards and in compliance with current safety and legal requirements ensuring supply is maintained to all operational sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that service levels are exceeded by directly and indirect management of drivers, office staff, vehicle workshop personnel, 3rd party service providers and contractors.
  • Drive distribution improvements to better service our customers via an excellent understanding of Transport Planning and OBTC tool used to fulfil all primary and secondary bulk deliveries.
  • Work closely with fleet maintenance providers to ensure minimum vehicle downtime and compliance with statutory requirements. Ensuring safe control of any 3rd party activities on site
  • Work with Head of Fulfilment and Finance to prepare annual operating and Capital expenditure budgets for all distribution activities and monitor control of expenditure within budget, meeting all financial and service KPI’s.
  • Identify areas to reduce costs and & implement, applying both a commercially focused and client-focused operating style, thereby always providing excellent customer service and ensuring the customer is fundamental to all our decision making.
  • Ensure safety compliance and safety record moves towards best in class for the distribution industry, ensuring all locations within area comply with Company procedures and policies.
  • Ensure transport compliance requirements are always met, ensure all employees are trained and equipped to deliver excellent customer service in all areas of distribution.
  • Develop high performing teams at each site you are responsible for through coaching, sharing best practice and clear communication. Plan for succession within the sites ensuring training plans are in place for key members of the teams across the area.

Do you have?

  • Proven leadership skills across multiple locations in Logistics and Distribution.
  • Transport Manager CPC qualification essential.
  • NEBOSH qualification essential and ADR qualification preferred.
  • Extensive experience at management level in a service led environment.
  • Extensive experience in a safety critical environment.
  • The ability to lead by example and practice Management by Walk About
  • The ability to organise resources in line with customer needs, develop and implement KPI’s.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage large and complex cost budgets.
  • The ability to think strategically, have input on direction and implementation of new approaches.
  • IT literate.
