Catering assistants are vital team members who support the smooth functioning of the kitchen, uphold hygiene standards, and contribute to a positive dining experience =for staff within the office.

Success for this role involves a blend of culinary skills, teamwork, and efficiency. This role will help ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen by maintaining a clean and organised workspace. Success also lies in effective communication and collaboration within the catering team.

The purpose of a catering assistant role encompasses several essential tasks and responsibilities.

Supporting the Catering Manager:

  • Catering assistants collaborate closely with the catering manager to ensure that menu meals are prepared and delivered to the required standard.
  • They assist in maintaining the overall efficiency of kitchen operations.
  • Involved in ad-hoc duties given by the catering manager.

Maintaining Cleanliness and Order:

  • Catering assistants actively contribute to the cleanliness and organisation of various areas within the kitchen, including tea points, dining areas, the main kitchen, pantry, and storage spaces.
  • Their role involves regular cleaning, sanitisation, and proper storage of utensils, equipment, and ingredients.

Food Preparation and Cooking:

  • Hygiene is paramount. Catering assistants follow strict hygiene practices while preparing food.
  • They participate in food preparation, ensuring that ingredients are fresh, properly handled, and cooked to meet safety standards.
  • Basic knowledge of cake/ biscuits made fresh
  • Knowledge of Storing and Labelling Foods
  • Sound Knowledge of Food Health and Safety

Breakfast and Lunch Service:

  • Catering assistants play an integral role in the preparation and serving of breakfast and lunch.
  • They assist in setting up stations, plating meals, and ensuring timely service to diners.
  • Prepping Salads / Sandwiches/ Quiche / Sausage Rolls  etc

Restocking and Inventory Management:

  • Responsible for restocking the breakfast bar and salad bar, catering assistants maintain an inventory of necessary items.
  • They monitor stock levels, replenish supplies, and organise storage areas efficiently.

Active Participation in Food Service:

  • During meal service, catering assistants contribute by serving food to customers.
  • They ensure that portions are accurate, presentation is appealing, and diners’ needs are met.
  • Responsible for taking catering to meeting rooms and event spaces.
