Join our dynamic team at Island Bakery as a Continuous Improvement (CI)/Process Leader!

We're seeking a proactive leader to optimise our production processes, ensuring efficiency, and safety for current and future products. With a quality-first mindset, you will be responsible for the reliability, and throughput of all food processing equipment.

We will happily consider a Process Engineer looking to progress their career. Island Bakery and Island life fit is paramount.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Process Excellence

  • Lead operational process setup and improvement.
  • Establish new processes to support product development and business changes.
  • Monitor operational capacity and layout, recommending future changes and investments.
  • Research and implement new process technologies
  • Monitor and improve operational KPIs using recognised methodologies (e.g., DMAIC).
  • Advise production management on areas for improvement and drive necessary changes.
  • Develop and maintain operational procedures and instructions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Actively engage in ongoing CI initiatives, focusing on yield, productivity and safety.
  • Regularly report ideas, trials, and results across all production areas.
  • Promote lean processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Train, coach, and mentor team members on CI methods.

Capital Projects

  • Prepare and submit capital justifications for key business projects, considering budgets and priorities.
  • Lead and support key business projects, working closely with stakeholders.
  • Identify, select, and install new equipment.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement and promote methods that minimise food safety risks.
  • Understand product labelling standards for allergen control, batch, and product information.
  • Report accidents and near misses immediately and assist in investigations.
  • Take responsibility for personal development and skills enhancement.
  • Support the business and its team members as needed.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail and diligence in work activities.
  • Engage with management, peers, and staff from other departments to ensure efficient operations.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree in engineering or operational discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in food production is preferred but any factory experience will be considered.
  • Strong presentation and selling skills to communicate effectively with leadership.
  • Technical competencies ideally include:
    • Level 3 Food Safety
    • IOSH Managing Safely
    • HACCP Level 3
    • Allergen training
    • Foreign body prevention training
  • Experience in budgeting and managing CI related costs.
  • Project management experience.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple projects/tasks effectively.
  • Initiative-driven with a strong program improvement mindset.
  • Proficient in Lean manufacturing.
  • Analytical thinking.

Scope of Authority

  • Joint responsibility for manufacturing strategy, priority setting, and execution as a key member of the leadership team.
  • No direct reports but may deputise for others.
  • Responsible for specific Opex and Capex budgets, including setting and reporting.
  • Final decision-maker for the quality, reliability, and throughput of all food processing equipment.
