Job Description for Head Groundsman in Bishop Stortford

Position: Permanent

Location:Bishop Stortford

Pets: 2 dogs, 11 horses, 3 cats & a flock of domestic ducks

Salary: £35,000-40,000 gross per annum

Holiday: 28 days holiday, performance based annual bonus

Start Date: ASAP

Hours Required: Monday to Friday, typically 8am to 4.30pm

Driver: Rural setting - Driver with own car required, as lack of public transport

Summary:

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Head Groundsman working on a private estate set within 45 acres of beautiful parkland just outside Bishops Stortford. Land consists mainly of parkland style garden with some paddocks for horses. Plans for formal garden & kitchen garden are underway.

We are looking for a Head Groundsman with some gardening knowledge. You will be able to manage a small team of groundsmen/gardeners. You will have the ability to look around the estate and identify what needs doing and to keep the estate to a very high standard.

The successful candidate will be heavily involved in all aspects of parkland maintenance and have some gardening experience. You will have a strong parkland and horticulture focus, plant knowledge, practical skills, mechanical knowledge, and experience in working on a private estate.

Duties will include:

  • All general grounds keeping & gardening duties,
  • Lawn & plant care,
  • Maintenance round the estate,
  • Winter jobs like hedge cutting etc
  • Autumn duties bulb planting etc.

You will be someone who has a motivated and get up and go attitude. The estate is a busy, fast paced environment and the right candidate should bring energy, organisation, and experience to the role.
