Hays are the exclusive recruiting partner for Birmingham City Council, their Social Housing Department is currently looking for a number of Housing Needs Officers to work out of their Oscott Gardens location, Perry Barr, which is an assisted living facility. The purpose of this role is to deliver support to tenants and enable them to sustain their homeless centre tenancy to then be able to move onto a suitable and secured accommodation.


Your new role
One of the most important responsibilities of your role as a Housing Needs Officer, will be to ensure the safety of all residents at the centre. Typical daily duties will include issuing licencing agreements, deliver resident inductions and referring to support agencies to aid residents in managing their expenditure and maximising their income. You will also be responsible for void room management and ensuring rooms are ready to be re-let by carrying out room inspections and arranging for repairs and decorating work.


What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will need to be comfortable around people with a desire to help and assist others; especially those who are vulnerable. You must have experience within customer service, ideally in a frontline service role within a housing or homelessness centre. If you are passionate and are committed to preventing homelessness, then this is a perfect role for you. This role will be an ASAP start, which before starting you will need to pass your reference and compliance checks, upon registration please have your 2 most recent employment details available for reference checks, the role also requires a clear Enhanced DBS check, which Hays will process free of charge if you are not currently on the DBS update service.


What you'll get in return
This role is based in Perry Barr, Birmingham, working across a shift pattern Monday to Sunday from 7am to 9pm, or a night-time shift pattern of 8pm to 8am. Working as part of the Council's City Housing directorate, you will be joining one of the largest teams within the Council, who manage the largest housing stock in Europe. They are going through a period of transition which may open permanent opportunities in the future. You will also receive an hourly rate of £12 and be paid on a weekly basis.
