COURT OF PROTECTION ASSISTANT

HORSHAM

The Role

You will be assisting an Associate in our Court of Protection Department where a Deputy has been appointed to manage a person’s property and financial affairs on their behalf as they sadly no longer have the mental capacity to deal with their own financial affairs. Your day will be varied with no two days being the same.

This role requires proactive thinking and includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Assisting with administration
  • Filing of incoming and outgoing post and correspondence
  • Updating the case management system
  • Liaising with clients, family members, close friends, neighbours, care homes, professionals etc
  • Typing up file notes and attendance notes
  • Taking messages
  • Updating clients on cases
  • Expenses
  • Cheque and payment requisitions
  • Production of letters and documents
  • Opening files and archiving
  • Diary management
  • Scanning, photocopying
  • Attending meetings with fee earner and taking minutes - will occasionally need to attend meetings alone
  • Time recording to ensure profitable working

Ideal candidate

  • Empathetic, personable, calm and caring nature
  • Excellent client care and communication skills to work effectively with all types of people
  • Well-organised, able to prioritise workloads and have a very good eye for attention to detail
  • Good IT skills - Word, Excel & Outlook (experience with SOS (case management system) is an advantage)
  • Ideally, some previous background in Court of Protection although someone with a general private client background, previously worked in a law firm or are currently working in a law firm or with an understanding of capacity-related issues would be considered
  • Passionate about helping people
  • Committed team player. Self-motivated and professional

A DBS check will be required for this role.
