Company: A leading robotics company based in Reading (Robotics experience not required)

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Reading Town centre (Must be able to commute to reading office on daily basis)

*They allow employees to work remote whenever needed but prefer an office presence.

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to manage the complete product lifecycle from concept to production. This includes designing, prototyping, and preparing manufacturing ?les for outsourced production. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic problem solver who can handle diverse engineering challenges and drive projects to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

*Generate innovative concepts and design solutions for mechatronic projects.

*Develop prototypes utilising techniques such as 3D printing,laser cutting, and hand-tool fabrication.

*Oversee the design of mechanical components and entire projects from inception to ?nal handoff.

*Ensure all CAD ?les and manufacturing documents are accurately maintained and updated in the CAD vault.

*Optimise design ?les to meet the speci?c requirements of external manufacturers and ensure manufacturability.

Required Skills and Experience:

*Pro?ciency in SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.

*Hands-on experience with CNC machining, lathe operations, 3D printing, vacuum casting, and plastic injection moulding.

*Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM),including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting, and vacuum casting.

*Experienced with PDM systems like Bild or other version control systems for managing project ?les.

*Practical knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

*Experience transitioning products from small-scale prototypes to large-scale manufacturing, including familiarity with CE marking and IP sealing.

*Creative thinker with a keen eye for design aesthetics and functional engineering solutions.

*Ability to develop and maintain feature-rich CAD models that facilitate easy updates and lifecycle management.

*Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams to meet design and manufacturing objectives.

*Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Additional Responsibilities:

*Continuously improve assembly processes and component designs to enhance overall product performance.

*Maintain documentation, including updating assembly procedures and documentation as needed.

*Cultivate and maintain relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers to ensure quality and timely production
