We seek a Senior Associate to join our client's Private Client & Tax Group, an integral component of their broader Private Capital Group initiative, offering a comprehensive service to a diverse and captivating clientele.

This presents an enticing opportunity for the suitable candidate to engage in all facets of the firm's Private Client & Tax practice.

  • The Private Capital Group is a rapidly expanding sector within the firm, renowned for its strong presence in the private client market.
  • The team's clients range from affluent individuals, family offices, trustees, financial institutions, to established businesses and start-ups, with many linked to the technology, finance, entertainment, media, and sports sectors.
  • Operating both domestically and internationally, their particular strength lies in serving clients affiliated with the Middle East and the US.

Responsibilities:

  • Drafting wills and devising succession plans, including aiding in the establishment and upkeep of wealth planning structures such as onshore and offshore trusts, foundations, family investment companies, and partnerships.
  • Offering guidance on inheritance tax and the application of reliefs, exemptions, double tax treaties, and essential planning exercises.
  • Advising on legal matters stemming from cross-border succession planning, including conflict of law issues, and collaborating with foreign counsel to tailor a global strategy.
  • Providing counsel on tax residency and domicile, offering insight into income tax and capital gains tax principles. This is including the remittance basis of taxation and reliefs such as split-year treatment, overseas' workday relief, and associated personal tax concerns, including the application of double tax treaties.
  • Addressing legal aspects related to mental incapacity, particularly in preparing and registering lasting powers of attorney.
  • Providing tax counsel on the establishment, retention, and/or dissolution of UK residential property holding structures, encompassing income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, and related corporate tax, ATED, and SDLT issues.

Candidate Profile:

  • We seek to appoint an Associate with 4 to 6 years PQE, qualified in England & Wales.
  • You should have outstanding academic credentials, top-tier training and ideally, experience with a firm renowned for its robust private client practice.
  • The ideal candidate is expected to:
  • Possess strong technical expertise coupled with excellent commercial judgment.
  • Demonstrate independence in thinking and action, while recognizing when to seek assistance and follow instructions.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm, confidence, sociability, and self-motivation, coupled with a pragmatic approach.
