Northern European Hub Procurement

We are working with a very large pharmaceutical company based in Basingstoke and they are looking for a Procurement Associate to join their team. See the full JD below.

An opportunity has arisen within the our Northern European Hub for a full-time Procurement resource supporting sourcing for all Business Units in the Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, UK and Ireland Sales & Marketing functions. The position is UK based within a small team of Procurement Professionals who are primarily NE Hub focussed but who are also regularly involved in regional and global projects.

The role is primarily responsible for supporting a number of key spend categories across the many varied affiliates’ Marketing, Medical, Sales and Support Services’ activities. This requires working closely with internal clients and external companies to evaluate opportunities, define strategies and implement innovative solutions for the selection of suppliers and delivery of successful outcomes.  The role also entails managing existing relationships to ensure we maximise the full value from our supply chain spend.

The candidate will ideally have proven experience within Procurement or have had significant exposure to external third party interactions, and it would be useful to have had some legal or contracting background.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply strategic sourcing processes, utilising project management skills and techniques to ensure timely project delivery and best value outcomes.
  • Manage supplier relationships in conjunction with business area owners.
  • Act as an escalation point for contractual and performance issues.
  • Negotiate and develop contracts within areas of responsibility.
  • Manage sourcing/tendering process, utilising Ariba tools.
  • Provide commercial advice to business areas as required.
  • Work with business to develop approved supplier strategies and listings in key areas of responsibility
  • Promote and ensure compliance with procurement processes and Financial Responsibility Authorisation Policy.
Essential Skills:
  • A knowledge of procurement processes and techniques
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate multiple sources of information and make recommendations
  • Able to communicate effectively, develop strong relationships and influence at all levels cross-functionally, both internally and externally
  • Commercially aware with a proactive, flexible, energetic, can-do attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and internal customer groups
  • Comfortable with external interactions and negotiations
  • Self-motivated, able to pro-actively seek and prioritise opportunities
  • Self-sufficient and skilled at working with minimal close guidance
Education Requirements:
  • Degree or further education level of academic achievement if new to Procurement
  • Deep experience of interacting with External parties as part of previous role(s)
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • CIPS qualification and/or Procurement experience would be a benefit
  • Good IT literacy with the Microsoft Office suite
