Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Conservator to join our consultancy team working at Uppark House and Garden. A key member of the project delivery team, you'll provide support and expertise in all aspects of preventive conservation throughout a complex programme of works at Uppark, from June 2024.

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week, there will be an opportunity to explore flexible working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust.

Salary: £38,961pa

Contract: 12 month fixed term contract

Interviews: 22nd Maywe would prefer to conduct face to face interviews, however we can accommodate virtual interviews for those who would like to apply but live outside of the area and would relocate for this role. What it's like to work here

Working closely with project, property and regional consultancy teams you'll help to deliver a sustainable and long term vision for this beautiful site that sits deep within the South Downs National Park. In this role you'll be line managed by General Manager but you'll work most closely with the Project Manager and colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary project team, including collections and facilities managers, building contractors, engineers, architects.

Your contractual place of work is Uppark House and Garden.

What you'll be doing

You’ll lead on the project's conservation aspects, commission and supervise internal and external conservation services and expertise as required.

You’ll make sure that standard processes are followed for any works to historic interiors, and that all collections are protected throughout. You’ll develop positive and productive working relationships with all relevant parties and stakeholders. And you’ll apply your technical expertise, creativity and innovation to support and achieve the aims of the project, while championing conservation throughout.

You'll connect with and be supported by the Trust's conservator job family, with the opportunity to contribute to the long term conservation work of the Trust and build relationships across the organisation.

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

  • an Icon (Institute of Conservation)-accredited conservator, or you have relevant experience gained while working towards accreditation
  • able to work quickly and make clear, pragmatic decisions to prioritise tasks in complex situations
  • confident using document management systems and processes to monitor programmes
  • able to commission, support and monitor remedial conservation work
  • a confident communicator, good at working with a wide range of people both internally and externally
  • focused on giving a great service to your clients, using your skills to understand, influence, negotiate and find solutions
  • adept at managing your time, costs and quality with a busy and varied workload, with some experience of managing small projects
  • a champion of inclusion, who helps support everyone to feel welcome.
