My client a local authority in Oxfordshire has a excellent opportunity for a senior management accountant on an interim basis for 18 months. This role can be remote working with very occasional visits to Oxford office. The role is looking to pay £25 per hour plus holiday or £30 per hour through an umbrella company. 

They are looking for an experienced Senior Management Accountant to join our Management Accounting Team, ideally specialising in Housing (General Fund), Regeneration & Economy, and Corporate Property to provide financial reporting and operational financial advice to Heads of Service and their management teams, for the purpose of managing, monitoring and setting their budgets as well as undertaking various year-end tasks to assist with the closure of accounts.

Job role

  • Provision of support, guidance and training to cost centre managers on all aspects of financial matters, including being the first point of contact
  • Provision of budget monitoring support and information to allow cost centre managers to take ownership of their budgets and forecasting, providing additional support in high risk areas that may need additional reviews
  • Assist the service areas with setting their budgets 
  •  Undertaking regular meetings with cost centre managers and Service Heads to discuss their budget monitoring position, any issues, capital project progress, establishment control issues, and financial process issues: including P2P, procurement and contracts.
  • Ensure forecasts are provided to be included within the monthly corporate reporting cycle with agreed commentary to explain the current position, ensuring that a level of challenge is given to managers to ensure that these reports include robust forecasts
  • Making full use of the Financial Management System to allow reporting to be easily run from the system, by cost centre managers, without the need for manual intervention, to ensure consistency in reporting and allowing managers to access reports when they require them
  •  To contribute to the Annual Statement of Accounts processes
  •  Provision of timely and accurate reports and attendance and participation at any relevant Boards
  • Ensure that all Service Heads and Cost Centre managers know, understand and comply with the financial regulations
  •  Deputise for the relevant Business Partner where required

Essential Criteria

  • CCAB qualified of Part Qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Track record of building positive relationships with service areas to ensure that communication and robust financial management is achieved
  • Experience of financial planning, and budget monitoring in a large complex organisation, including identification of efficiencies and improved performance
  • Experience of extracting data and interpreting the results in a clear and concise way to all levels of staff
  • Strong communication skills and a confident and enthusiastic work ethic
  • Ability to undertake complex financial modelling, evaluation and presentation of the findings
  • Experience in Agresso desirable
